PRESENTATION:
Clothed, Fed, and Over Their Heads
The New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF) is responsible for working with students and families on ways to responsibly fund postsecondary education. As college costs
continue to rise at a rate higher than inflation, NHHEAF is committed to taking a closer look at the financial hardships its borrowers face. How much credit card debt do students have? How many have been reported delinquent on their credit card payments? Why is personal financial literacy important? “Clothed, Fed & Over Their Heads?” examines the credit card use patterns of NHHEAF student loan borrowers. The analysis includes a breakdown of the credit card debt of 8,573 undergraduate college students and 22,274 former undergraduate college students now in repayment on their loans.
